Historical Background
Neptune, in Roman mythology, was the god of water and the sea; hence the connection to this powerful water staff. He was the brother of Jupiter and Pluto (both of whom also have HQ elemental staves named after them). His Greek counterpart was Poseidon however, the Roman origins of Neptune are more probably based off the Etruscan god Nethuns. In FFXI the Neptune's Spire Inn shares a name with him as well as the analogous Poseidon's Ring.
